On Engineering Leadership
In engineering leadership, I sit in a strange place.
I’m the most technical product manager in the room.
The most technical delivery manager too.
I carry the full context - the systems, the trade-offs, the people.
Their craft. Their careers. Their lives outside the code.
I was one of them once. Fully immersed in the work.
That still matters.
But lately, I’ve been learning something else.
That leadership also means knowing when to step back.
When to loosen the grip.
Detachment isn’t disengagement.
It’s how you make room for direction.
Someone has to look ahead - past the sprint, past the quarter.
To see where we’re going and why.
